For the end of the world

“Nobody knows it, but you’ve got
a secret smile, and you use it only for me”

The light arrived slowly that morning,
blurry shadows behind clouds and the sun.
Somewhere, somehow, everything
was to happen that day. And she was
nervous, trying to distract herself while
he was confident – their roles strangely
inverted. Waiting slowly changing
into patience and fluttering heart beats, until
The first embrace.

Then the streets
Flooded with noise, movement
And smells. But their eyes,
Their eyes were closing on
each other. They knew
it was happening
– right there, right
at that moment – and yet
nobody else knew.

Then he said, Give me your hand,
And the whole world
imploded around
them.
